How has European basketball player Luka Doncic affected the National Basketball Association? - Adam Moss

Luka Doncic was born in Ljubljana, and started his basketball career playing for Union Olimpija before he was able to join the youth basketball academy of Real madrid at a young age. He made his debut at a young age being 16 years old. This was considered the youngest age the club has ever seen. As a young teenager, he led his team to the Euroleague championship, winning MVP and final four MVP. A young Luka doncic, was on pace to do great things but never could have imagined what he would do in the NBA.

Since Luka Doncic debuted in the 2018-2019 season, he has had an unbelievable impact on the NBA and the European world. He has not only gauged more international interest, but also has raised the bar when it comes to European’s playing in the United States. Doncic’ success in the NBA has helped raise the profile of the NBA in Europe as well.

Doncic has proved to fans around the world and sports analysts that Europeans can compete at the highest level of basketball, while also having the potential of being one of the bests in the league. Thanks to Luka Doncic, he has opened up many new opportunities for European players to become successful in the NBA.

Luka has also been successful with single handedly generating more profits for the NBA. Examples like merchandise sales, increased ratings, and most importantly international expansion has boosted the NBA’s ratings due to his success.

The season right before Luka entered the league, the NBA profits came out to roughly eight billion dollars. Now, fast forward multiple years, as Luka’s success has emerged, as well as many other European players, the NBA now makes roughly 10 Billion dollars as of 2022.

To get into the specifics on viewership from Europeans, I found that after the 2021 season, due to players like Luka Doncic, Giannis, and Nikola Jokic, the NBA’s viewership in multiple continents has increased about 15 percent in NBA League Pass subscriptions internationally. This makes games available to people in over 200 countries. These European basketball players, Luka Doncic specifically, are changing the NBA and increasing their viewership tremendously.

Overall, Luka Doncic has made a tremendous impact on the NBA and European basketball players. Ever since he entered the league and started his successful career, more and more European fans and players have been tuning in to watch the NBA and joining the league as a whole. Fans all over the world are watching Luka do his magic on the court each and every time he steps on there. As you can see, ratings have gone up, the NBA has profited more, and more and more people are starting to realize that European basketball players are more then on their way to taking over the NBA.
